As the price of industrial goods is comparatively much higher than the price of agricultural produce, per capita income of 70% of the population is much less than the per capita income of 20% of the population involved in industry or other non-agricultural activities. Because of low per capita income this 70% population is treated as the deprived mass and lack proper education, adequate health care, proper nutrition, proper housing and so on. Their opinions are ignored at all facets of life. They face social atrocities, their desires are subdued and they fail to represent their community in social leadership. They remain away from the mainstream of the society.

AWARENESS INDIA has strongly recognized the deep social concern of these 70% population and is striving hard through various programmes to create a route to economic empowerment of these people. AWARENESS INDIA has adopted microfinance activities and is strongly popularizing its concept and importance among large cross section of these deprived masses since 1998. Apart from Microfinance, the organisation also pursues other socio-economic developmental activities with an objective to create a route to economic empowerment and find alternate leadership at all levels for establishing these deprived mass on the mainstream.

Starting its Micro Finance activities in few places of Orissa during 1998 AWARENESS INDIA has now spread its activities to all 30 districts, 314 blocks & 6234 Gram Panchayats and over 49000 villages. Also, its activity has extended to 4 neighbouring states – Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhatishgarh and Jharkhand.
